The checklist, without the calendar

60 days out

  • Read your orders and decide whether you are driving or shipping the vehicle.
  • Ask your local transportation office what the government covers for your move.
  • Request your free estimate and note each company's answer on military discounts.

30 days out (3 to 4 weeks before the pickup date you need)

  • Compare offers, check the company's USDOT or MC number on the FMCSA SAFER site, and book.
  • Wash the vehicle and photograph all sides, the interior and the odometer.
  • Take out personal items; ask the company what it allows in the vehicle.

14 days out

  • Confirm the pickup window and the meeting point, especially if it is on or near a base.
  • Make sure the vehicle starts, drives and brakes, and leave about a quarter tank of fuel.
  • Name someone to be at delivery who can inspect the vehicle and sign the Bill of Lading.

Why these steps, and what to do on delivery day, are in the Military PCS Car Shipping Guide. Back to Military Auto Shipping. On delivery day, use the delivery-day checklist.

Questions about the planner

Enter your report date, or the pickup date you need if it is different. The steps count back from that date: 60, 30 and 14 days before it. The 30-day step is meant to fall 3 to 4 weeks before the pickup date you need.

On overseas (OCONUS) orders the government pays to ship one vehicle to your final destination if your overseas installation allows it, according to Military OneSource. For stateside moves, ask your local transportation office what applies to your orders.

No. The dates and the calendar file are made in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent to us.

The planner marks it. Do those steps as soon as you can; in peak PCS season (May to August) earlier is better, because pickup windows get longer.
