It was first built as a trading post to trade with local Native Americans, but the Royal Family back in Britain saw the financial gains that could be made from this new colony, and was named after King George and was offered status as a Royal Colony.
Like most Georgian cities, Savannah experiences hot summers and cooler winters. Average high temperatures in the summer hover around 95 degrees, while its lows rarely dip below 68 degrees. In the summer, things tend to cool off a bit, with highs around 68 degrees and lows around 40 degrees.
