Bradenton is a city in as well as the county seat of Manatee County, Florida. It is currently home to over 50,600 residents and is a principal city of the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is currently home to over 702,000 residents. Bradenton is home to Tropicana Products, one of the largest producers of orange juice, and is also the home of Champ Sports.
Bradenton was home to some of the highest-valued homes in the entire region before the housing bubble burst in 2008, making Bradenton more popular among people looking for a new home today, as home prices are lower than they used to be.
The city was named for Dr. Joseph Braden, a man who lived and worked in the area in the middle of the 1700’s. He would often lend his home and his medicinal skills to refugees from Native American attacks. The city was founded in 1842, though for decades it remained a small farming area more than anything.
This changed during the early 20th century, particularly during the real estate boom in the region, and the city of Bradenton was incorporated as a city in 1943, and actually included nearby Manatee, which at the time was a separate area.
During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 90 degrees during the day, with overnight lows often dropping to around 70 degrees. Summertime temperatures can get higher, with temperatures in the triple digits not that uncommon.
Humidity can also be a factor during the summer months, which makes Bradenton more of a winter destination for many people, as during the winter months, high temperatures tend to top out around 72 degrees during the day and lows often drop into the low-to-mid 50’s overnight.
This makes the area more popular among snowbirds, who will hire car transport companies to ship their vehicles south during the fall and winter.
