The Ford Escape was introduced in 2000 for the 2001 model year and was deliberately priced below the Ford Explorer to appeal to the younger, poorer crowds. The Escape is currently being sold in three gasoline models (the XLS, XLT, Limited) and two hybrids (Hybrid and Hybrid Limited), and the gasoline models are typically cheaper than the hybrid models. The XLS, which costs just $21,440, gets 23/28 mpg (city/highway) and is a great commuter car. Many auto transportation companies see this type of Escape more than most. The XLT, which costs $24,870, features a six-way power drivers seat, a 2.5L Straight-4 engine, as well as keyless entry. The Limited starts at $26,370 but features a voice-activated Sync system and Sirius XM Satellite Radio, among a bunch of other cool stuff.
The Hybrid and Hybrid Limited models were introduced later in the Escape’s lifetime and currently are rated at 34/31 mpg. This isn’t as great as some other hybrids, but for a hybrid SUV it’s pretty impressive. The Hybrid model comes in at $30,570 and features much the same things as the regular Limited, but with a hybrid engine. The Hybrid Limited has a powered moonroof and some other cool things, clocking in at $33,080. The coolest thing about the Escape is its size – being smaller than the Explorer, it’s grouped in with other crossover-type vehicles, even though it’s considered an SUV by Ford. This makes it easy for auto transportation companies to price transportation for the Escape, and overweight or oversize fees shouldn’t be in the mix considering its weight and height.
