Southern Car Shipping Difficult Thanks to New Years’ Tornadoes
The southern United States, in particular the Gulf Coast states, may experience some tornadoes. These tornadoes will likely make southern car shipping services more difficult to find and book.
The southern U.S. right now is a hotbed of car transportation activity. Many people are moving to and around the region, as it is one of the few devoid of snow and ice. However, tornadoes are almost worse, from a car transport perspective. Great way to ring in the new year, right?
What to expect with southern car shipping services right now
Right now, affected areas include east Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Their neighbors could also experience problems, as well.
Right now – as of this writing, anyway – they’re only tornado watches. Tornadoes have not been seen yet, but they’re certainly possible.
Major cities that might see tornadoes include New Orleans, Little Rock, Tallahassee and Atlanta, among many other smaller communities. Tornadoes can rip entire towns apart and make it impossible to traverse.
This is a big problem. We’ve been watching the progress of several winter storms, but those typically affect the north and northeast. Tornadoes typically affect the Midwest, but southern car shipping rarely sees such problems.
The video embedded at the top shows the devastation a single tornado can cause. That video was taken in late November 2016 when tornadoes ripped through northern Alabama. Though rare, it’s not unheard of to see tornadoes in that region.
When it comes to southern car shipping services, expect delays and diversions of routes through affected areas. Most auto shipping carriers will be unable to get to or from areas that have been hit by tornadoes. Not only that, but many carriers will actively avoid areas with tornado warnings. Nothing worse than losing an entire load to a massive wind funnel, after all.
Luckily, tornadoes often don’t strike the major cities of the southern U.S. This warning may turn out to be nothing – or it could cause widespread devastation. For now, make sure to keep in close contact with your agent if your vehicle is in transit. Expect delays in pickup if you are waiting for a carrier to pickup or transport a vehicle through the southern U.S.
