Household Moving Tips to Birmingham, AL

Birmingham 1Birmingham is a city in as well as the county seat of Jefferson County, in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is also the largest city in the state by population, as it is home to over 212,000 residents in the city proper and anchors a larger metropolitan area of 1.13 million residents. Birmingham was founded in 1871, during the post-Civil War Reconstruction period, via the consolidation of three different towns in the area. It grew into the prominent manufacturing center of the Deep South until the end of the 1960’s; today, however, Birmingham is a major center for healthcare, industrial and military research and development, retail, education and insurance, to name a few.

Located in the north-central part of the state, Birmingham is the main commercial and economic center of Alabama, and as such is one of the most popular household moving locations in the state. Oddly enough, however, the city has seen a steady rate of population decline since the 1960’s, though since 2010 the city has seen a much slower rate of population decline than in prior years; this is good news, as the city was hit rather hard by the economic depression that hit back in 2008. This has led to lower housing prices in the entire Birmingham-Hoover area, which is great news if you’re planning on moving to Birmingham since you should be able to find plenty of real estate for fairly good prices.

Interstate household moving companies tend to have a hard time getting into and out of closely-quartered downtown commercial districts, so if you’re moving to or from downtown Birmingham, say, to or from a condo or apartment in a high-rise building in the heart of downtown, your household mover might not be able to get directly to you, which means they’ll have to find someone local, with a smaller truck, to deliver your goods to you. This is pretty common when shipping household goods into and out of major metropolitan areas and large cities. Suburbs tend not to see this problem, especially those that were planned and designed for high vehicle traffic. Nonetheless, it likely won’t affect your prices all that much, and Birmingham is a popular shipping location in the country anyway, so you shouldn’t have any problems finding a company that can help you out.
