Car Transport Services to Fairbanks, Alaska
Fairbanks is a city located in the U.S. State of Alaska, in Fairbanks North Star Borough (the Alaskan equivalent to counties are known as “boroughs”) and is also the borough seat in Fairbanks North Star Borough.
Fairbanks is the largest city in Alaska that is not on a coastline, and is the second-largest city in the state after Anchorage. Currently home to a population of over 32,000 residents,
Fairbanks is also the seat of the Fairbanks Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Fairbanks North Star Borough and is home to over 97,000 total residents. Fairbanks North Star Borough is one of the smallest boroughs by area but also one of the most populated.
Fairbanks’ location in central Alaska makes it difficult to transport vehicles to get into and out of, but it’s not for a lack of wanting to. Fairbanks is a popular car transport location within Alaska because of its size, though not nearly as popular as Juneau or Anchorage, the two major port cities in Alaska.
Fairbanks doesn’t see much auto transport traffic precisely because it’s not a port city; since auto shippers move vehicles up to Alaska (and down from Alaska) via overseas auto shipping services, and since Fairbanks isn’t accessible via the sea, auto shippers are going to have to drop their goods off at the port, and let someone else handle getting it into the interior of the Alaskan wilderness. This generally makes auto transport services to Fairbanks more expensive, if they’re available at all.
The reason we say that is because most auto transport companies that offer shipping services to or from the state of Alaska will only handle the contiguous portion of the shipment (that is, getting it around the lower 48 states, since that’s what they do) and handling port-to-port shipping services either to or from Alaska.
If you’re trying to ship to or from Fairbanks, chances are you’re going to need to get your car to Anchorage, or maybe even Juneau, since there is not a single auto transport company out there that offers services from Alaska to the U.S. by way of Canada – it’s expensive, incredibly long and hardly cost-effective given the requirements and where the route travels (namely, through the middle of nowhere).
There are some companies that will offer auto transportation services to and from the interior cities of Alaska from the ports, but they’ll be located in Alaska and will only be able to handle the Alaska portion of the trip.
Don’t forget that any shipper that handles the overseas portion won’t handle the overland transportation within Alaska proper; they can do the contiguous U.S. and some port-to-port shipments, depending on where you’re shipping from or to, but they won’t do shipping within Alaska, or any other overseas areas for that matter (including Hawaii and U.S. territories such as Guam, Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands), and they definitely can’t handle shipping within another country, if they even offer international services. This means you’ll need to arrange any overland transportation from the port to Fairbanks – or vice-versa.
