Car Transport Companies, Carriers Enjoying Market Upswing
Maybe “enjoying” is too strong a word, but market conditions have car transport companies and other long-haul industries seeing their most favorable conditions in years, according to CCJ Digital. More importantly, it should continue into 2018.
With the rise of ELD implementation, hurricanes and a strengthening economy, truckers are seeing better rates…and more loads. This includes auto transporters, and even we here at American Auto Shipping are seeing the effects.
Article Overview
‘Tis the season for car transport companies
Despite it being December – a notoriously difficult month for many car transporters – demand is actually up this year. More people are looking to ship their vehicles this month than in years past, and analysis from TCI – per the CCJ article linked above – points to a strengthening economy as the main culprit. This doesn’t mean that all truckers are equal, however. Overall, a 13% dip in demand has increased availability for non-auto-transporters.
What this has done is raised rates for many industries, but that hasn’t stopped people shipping things. December is usually slower across the country for truckers. Usually, companies start laying off seasonal workers to prepare, but the DOT has reported a 900-job growth across all sectors. Jobs in all trucking fields are up over 15,000 compared to last year.
How this affects your car shipping services and experiences
Growth is good. The economy is strengthening, at least for now, and demand for auto transportation services is increasing. This demand is good because it keeps truckers in business. But car transport companies aren’t adding numbers the way other trucking companies are. That’s not necessarily a bad thing – supply is still meeting demand, and there’s a natural balance among carriers and customers. So on the whole, this won’t change much.
However, it can and likely will affect how quickly your vehicles are dispatched, especially if you’re shipping to or from major cities or auto transportation hubs. The auto shipping industry is definitely seasonal – winter is the slowest time of the year for car transport companies, after all. So during the winter, sometimes, it can be tough to find a carrier.
Well, things should be a bit easier now. It likely will not affect a lot of customers, but if you ship cars on a regular basis you’ll likely notice shorter dispatch times. Prices may also decrease along popular routes, though on some they may increase. Speak to an agent to learn more.
