Auto Transport Tips: Communicating With Your Driver
We’ve talked about some great ways that you can improve communication with your auto transport representative in this blog before, but we haven’t really discussed how you can communicate with your auto transport driver, which is something that you should definitely be aware of and know a bit about. Unlike communicating with your representative, communicating with your driver is going to involve more detailed information, particularly regarding your pickup and delivery locations and times as well as updates regarding where the carrier is and what is going on with your vehicle. Typically your auto transport representative will give you the pertinent contact information for your auto transporter and will make sure that both you and the driver are on the same page when it comes to the actual pickup and delivery of your vehicle.
When communicating with your driver always be up front and honest with him regarding your vehicle. Some drivers have accents that can be hard to understand, so patience is important. At pickup you want to talk to your driver about the route he will take and how long he estimates it will be. Also, make sure to find out his insurance information – all transporters are required to give you a copy of their insurance certificate which has all the information regarding their insurance including any deductibles and other information that could screw you out of a claim if you don’t know about it. Make sure both you and the driver do an inspection of your vehicle for damage before pickup and after delivery. Carriers may not call you every day, and you shouldn’t call them every day; every few days is fine, especially for longer trips, but they will always coordinate with you regarding pickup and delivery, which – for the carrier anyway – are the most important parts of your shipment.
