Upper Arlington is a city located in Franklin County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is currently home to a population of about 33.700 residents and is considered an affluent suburb of Columbus, the largest city in the state. This places Upper Arlington in the Columbus Metropolitan Statistical Area, the third-largest metro area in Ohio. Founded in 1913 as a real estate community, and grew slowly over the next twenty years or so, finally reaching about 800 residents by its incorporation in 1940. Over time, Upper Arlington has developed into a vibrant suburban community based on a mix of different economic sectors, though on the whole is retail-driven. It also sits just west of The Ohio State University, a premier university located just outside the city’s boundaries.
