Skokie is a village located in Cook County in the U.S. state of Illinois. Home to a population of over 64,700 residents, Skokie has been incorporated since 1888 and is a major part of the Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area, the third-largest in the U.S. and anchored by Chicago, the third-largest city in the country. Skokie for years was the largest village in the United States by population, though it has since been surpassed by several different villages in the Chicago area, notably Arlington Heights, the largest. Skokie is an integral part of the Chicago area and is located only a few miles from the downtown core of Chicago. Because it sits so close to the city, Skokie’s roads are mostly continuations of Chicago streets, despite being an independent village.
