Martinez (pronounced Martin-ez, not Mar-TEEN-ez, as is common) is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Columbia County, in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is not an incorporated city. When settlement began in Martinez is unclear, but the area was first settled by a wealthy Cuban man who had immigrated to the United States and wished to be an American soldier. The area began attracting residents not long afterward, and by the 20th century had grown into a small community.
