Auto Shipping by Region: The Mid-Atlantic
The Mid-Atlantic (also known as the Middle Atlantic and the Mid-Atlantic States) is a region in the United States, located on the east coast of the country underneath New England and above the Southern states.
The Mid-Atlantic region, historically, is the center of trade, culture and commerce in the United States; colonization of the region by a variety of different nationalities has led to the “melting pot” mentality inherent to the area. The Mid-Atlantic is comprised of Delaware, Washington DC, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
The largest city (New York City), largest metro area (the New York City metro area), the second-most populated state (New York), the most densely-populated state (New Jersey) and the nation’s capital (Washington DC) all are located in the Mid-Atlantic region, and it is not surprising that the area has long been considered one of the most prominent not just in the U.S. but throughout the world in terms of culture, economy and trade.
Transportation through the Mid-Atlantic region is primarily done via Interstate 95, which services almost every state in the region minus West Virginia.
I-95 is one of the most important transportation corridors in the United States today, running from Miami, Florida north through sixteen states including Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Washington DC, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania before heading into the New England region.
Ultimately I-95 runs into Maine and out into northeastern Canada, specifically near Houlton/Woodstock. It’s a major interstate that many carriers utilize on a daily basis as it services some of the most populated regions of the continent, particularly the New York City metro area.
There are a number of other interstates that service the Mid-Atlantic region but most all of them connect in some way to I-95, as that is the main locus for most auto transportation through the region.
When transporting a vehicle into the Mid-Atlantic region you’ll likely find that, like any other region, where you ship can have a big impact on your auto transport prices, but the Mid-Atlantic is generally cheaper to ship to simply because of how many people live in the region.
Areas such as Philadelphia, New York City, Richmond and Washington DC are likely going to be the cheapest areas to ship to or from as they are popular areas for transportation services.
Many people move in and out of the Mid-Atlantic region every single day, and with it being the center of trade and commerce in the U.S. it’s not surprising to see a lot of people looking for shipping services to the region.
