Elgin is a city located primarily in Bastrop County, in the U.S. state of Texas, though portions of the city extend into neighboring Travis County. Home to over 8,100 residents, Elgin is a small suburb of Austin, the third-largest city in the state, and is a part of the larger Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos Metropolitan Statistical Area, also known as Greater Austin. Elgin has been settled since at least the early 1870’s, and was incorporated as a city in 1873, and by 1880 the railroad had brought many new residents to the area. Growth was fast at first, but began to slow down during the 20th century, though in the 21st it has since picked up. Elgin is known as the Brick Capital of the Southwest, as it is home to two brick companies that have been in business since the turn of the 20th century, of three that were originally located in the town. Elgin is also known as the Sausage Capital of Texas for its unique sausage.

Auto Transport Tips to and from Elgin
Elgin is located a few miles east of Austin proper, making it a true outlying city. Unlike areas north or south of Austin, though, Elgin is not serviced by any major interstate highways. While I-25 runs north-south through Austin and other cities, Elgin is only accessible by surface streets and Highway 290, a small spur of road that connects to northern Austin. Generally this requires auto transport companies to run longer routes and expend more resources to get somewhere small for only one customer, so moving your pickup or delivery location to somewhere closer to Austin may not be a bad idea.
Elgin also suffers from being a small town, at least when it comes to auto transport services to or from the area. Auto transport companies prefer to run routes from and to heavily populated areas, and while the Austin metro area is large and home to over 2.1 million residents, auto shippers prefer to stick close to the interstates or the highways that they will be running their routes on once they leave the area. Elgin doesn’t allow carriers easy access to other areas, which is another reason why moving your pickup or delivery out of Elgin and into a more accessible area will help save you time and money.
