Sacramento is a city in as well as the county seat of Sacramento County, and it is also the capital of the entire state of California. Sacramento is the sixth-largest city in the state of California by population, with a current population of over 478,000 residents.

Sacramento was first settled by American industrialist John Sutter in 1840, and was originally known as Sutter’s Fort. initial construction was done by Native American labor during the early 1840’s, and after its completion John Sutter received a gift of 2000 different fruit trees, which in turn began one of the first agricultural businesses in the city.
In 1848, the California Gold Rush began in earnest when gold was found at Sutter’s Mill, some 50 miles from the fledgling townsite of Sacramento. The Gold Rush brought tens of thousands of new settlers, raising Sacramento’s population by leaps and bounds – by 1850 it had been officially incorporated as a city.
Sacramento, like San Francisco, enjoys mild weather throughout the year, and with plenty of sunshine it really is the place to be. Its high temperature during the summer averages around 75, while in the winter highs peak at around 50. During the winter, lows can be seen dipping down to the mid-to-upper 50’s in summertime and the low-to-mid 40’s during the winter. Rain fall is typical for a Californian city, averaging about 12 inches or so per year.
