Rochester is a city in Monroe County, New York, and as of the 2000 US Census the city’s population was over 207,000, making it the third largest city in the state. It is the primary city in the Rochester Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans and Wayne Counties.
Rochester was founded by Colonel Nathaniel Rochester in 1803, and by 1821 the city was the county seat of Monroe County and by 1823 had over 2,500 residents. By 1830 the city had been incorporated and during the late 1800’s experienced a large industrial boom that continued well into the 20th century.
During the summer months temperatures typically hit around 80 degrees during the day, with overnight lows typically dropping to around 60 degrees. During the winter months, however, snow is common, with highs topping out around 32 degrees and lows often getting to around 10 degrees overnight.
