Auto Transport Tips: Zip Codes Help and More
A lot of people don’t really think about it, but zip codes can really help when it comes to finding accurate and reliable auto transportation quotes. Our free quote form – like many you will find online – can take both city names and zip codes, but unlike most quote forms out there, ours requires you to actually select the city you are shipping from and to from the drop-down.
Whether you type in the name of the city or the zip code, you can’t just “tab” to the next field; you have to go down and actually select it. This is because accuracy is one of the most important things that you can have when shipping a vehicle, as it allows car shippers to price their routes more accurately.
Accurate quotes, as you likely know, are incredibly important, and the information that you give to your shipping company will have a direct impact on your prices and services. Inaccurate zip codes usually won’t break the bank, especially if you’re shipping to a bedroom town of a large city and you accidentally missed a number or mistyped something.
It happens to the best of us. Zip codes are great and easy because they’re so accurate; if you tell your shipper you need a vehicle picked up in Jackson, it could mean Jackson, Mississippi, or maybe Alabama, or Kentucky or Louisiana or Maine or any of the other Jacksons out there in the country.
Of course, if you tell them you’re shipping from zip code 68743, well, they can simply type that into a map and voila, they know you’re shipping out of Jackson, Nebraska, home to 223 residents and notable mostly for the Siouxland Ethanol Plant that sits on the outskirts of the village.
You tell them just “Jackson” though and they may assume it’s any of the other cities or towns named Jackson. Having zip codes is really a great thing to have when shipping a vehicle. Also keep in mind that the year, make and model of your vehicle will make a difference in your price and service too, but only in so far as to determine the vehicle’s size – size is important, but also a lot easier to figure out than the name of a town in the middle of nowhere.
