Auto Shipping FAQ: How are Limousines Shipped?
Limousines are pretty cool contraptions, all things considered. Designed to be a vehicle of luxury, they are longer than an average vehicle, often heavier, with a lot of things inside them that aren’t in a standard vehicle (minibars seem standard in a lot of higher-end limos, for instance).
All of this, taken together, means that shipping a limousine is a bit different, and usually a bit more difficult, than shipping a standard truck. So, how are limousines shipped? Often, much the same way as any other vehicle – they are driven onto and off of either an open or enclosed transport truck and secured in place like any other vehicle.
But there’s some other things that you need to be aware of, mostly concerning price and services rendered, that make shipping a limousine more difficult.
When shipping a limousine, the length is usually going to be the biggest thing that will affect your price. Limousines are custom-built; there aren’t any factories (that I know of, anyway) that pump out pre-designed limousines.
Like hearses, limos are built from other vehicles, usually things like the Ford Crown Victoria, but theoretically any vehicle can be elongated into a limousine. The Hummer H1 or H2 are really popular, and are often used by independent limo fleets for things like high school proms and chauffeuring around the rich and famous.
But when it comes to shipping one, the length is going to end up costing you more money, especially if the vehicle’s height, width and weight are all fairly standard. Limousines have to take up two or more spaces on a truck, which means you have to pay for that extra space.
